Brave & Free

 This week, I have been thinking about how much courage God gave the signers of the Declaration of Independence 245 years ago. These men, who are known as the Founding Fathers, risked everything so that we can be free! They and their families could have been killed. Incredibly, they committed treason against the most powerful nation in the world at the time. It was like a cartoon in which the itty-bitty, unorganized, underdog colonies told the giant monarch with a vast military that he was wrong. They gave him twenty-seven reasons why! How could anyone do that without the confidence of God's protection? How could such a ragtag army possibly succeed? Obviously, the founders were tools in God's hands, and the majority of them knew it. I praise God for the United States of America and celebrate the Patriot's success. Happy Independence Day!

On Tuesday, May 4, 2021, I had the privilege of attending a rally in Columbia, SC.  Standing in the elegant hall downstairs, I listened to gifted speakers, including many pastors . I could hardly see them through the mask-less crowd but that didn't matter. Their powerful words, bursting with truth, were the important part. Each of them affirmed that we, the Christian church, must stop this particular abomination from continuing. We must step up. It is such a horrible thing that we cannot stand by and watch, not when it is our duty to spread the Gospel. Now what, you may ask, is so awful? What is this so-called "abomination"? It's abortion. Thousands of innocent children are murdered in the U.S. every day and many Christians do nothing about it. We sit and talk about our supposed desire to do God's will while babies are being killed.  We say we want to make a difference, but when it comes to government, we step back. Why?
